Containment

Political observers might name 15 or more possible reasons the USA invaded Iraq but few can give just one with any confidence. Here is what Gwynne Dyer says, a London based syndicated columnist. He suggests that the 14 permanent military bases the Americans have established may have been put in Iraq to stop oil going to a third country. Which one? China. Since China is heavily dependent on imported oil from the Gulf perhaps the ring of allies Bush has been courting that border China are all part of the containment policy Americans are applying towards their one main superpower rival, Russia excluded it would seem.
